The Governing Body of the City of Silver Lake met in regular session at city hall on Monday evening June 03, 2019 with Mayor Mack Smith conducting the meeting and the following Councilmembers present: Tim Kampsen, Heath Robinson, Larry Ross, Nancy Bryant, (4) Absent: Tom Noble (1)

A resident from the community was here to discuss possibly getting a committee together to expand on the 4th of July kids’ parade. Mayor Smith mentioned he would ask a councilmember to be on the committee, but the community would need to come up with the other members to be on the committee.

Motion was made by Councilmember Ross and seconded by Councilmember Robinson that the minutes from the last regular session held on May 20, 2019 be approved as amended.

Claim vouchers in the amount of $11,177.66 were submitted to council for appropriation. An ordinance entitled "An ordinance appropriating money to pay certain claims" was introduced and read at length. Motion was made by Councilmember Robinson and seconded by Councilmember Kampsen that said ordinance be accepted as read and was then placed on final passage by roll call of the following vote: AYE: Tim Kampsen, Heath Robinson, Larry Ross, Nancy Bryant (4) NAY: None. Ordinance was declared passed and was given No. 2426.

Motion was made by Councilmember Ross to approve the following Resolution Authorizing the Discharge Of Fireworks Within The City: Fireworks as defined in Section 7-301 of the Code of the City of Silver Lake, Kansas may be lawfully discharged within the corporate limits of the City only between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 10:00 P.M. on July 1st , July 2nd , and July 3rd, and between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and Midnight on July 4th , July 5th , and July 6th , 2019. Furthermore, fireworks may be lawfully discharged between the hours of 11:50 P.M., December 31, 2019 and 12:10 A.M. on January 1, 2020. In the event of a county wide burn ban, the lighting of fireworks within the city will be prohibited. Motion was seconded by Councilmember Robinson and approved.

Council briefly discussed the TEAP Study Results. This matter will be continued at the next meeting on June 17th , 2019.

Chief Call presented the monthly police report.

Public Works Assistant Smith presented the monthly public works report.

June 4th , 2019 Sunflower Paving will begin working on the streets: Beaubien, Mariner, and Sunset Ct.

Mayer will be here on June 13th for sewer jetting.

Public Works Employees will start spraying for mosquitos on June 5th 2019.

Councilmember Ross and Councilmember Kampsen asked Public Works Assistant Smith to maintain the weeds around the city limits sign on the west end of town.

Public Work Assistant Smith reported the weeds around the Lions Club sign have been taken care of.

City Attorney Luckman updated council on the Housing Authority situation.

Councilmember Ross mentioned the candidates for the upcoming elections.

Councilmember Robinson inquired about the storm drain at the end of Lakewood Terrace. Public Work Assistant Smith informed council that City Engineer Pat Cox was working on a plan.

Discussion was held about making the bike path that connects Lakewood Ter. and Rice, more accessible. This would connect the new subdivision to the old part of town. Councilmember Robinson asked Public Works Assistant Smith to get an estimated cost for this project.

Brief discussion was held concerning the concrete portion of the 2019 Street Repair Project.

Mike Blanding submitted a letter of resignation from the Board of Zoning Appeals. Councilmember Kampsen made a motion to accept Blanding’s resignation. Motion was seconded by Councilmember Bryant and approved.

All City Officials received an invitation to the Red, White, and Blue Sunday on June 30th , 2019. This event is being held at the First Baptist Church.

A Board of Zoning Appeals meeting is scheduled for June 13th at 7 P.M..

The next meeting is scheduled for June 17th at 5:30 P.M. The following meeting is scheduled for July 1st at 5:30 P.M.

With no further business to come before council, Councilmember Ross moved to adjourn the meeting at 6:28 P.M. Motion was seconded by Councilmember Kampsen and approved.
