Silver Lake, December 8, 2023

In a heartwarming celebration of dedication and service, the City of Silver Lake comes together to express profound gratitude to Mayor Mack Smith, who has faithfully served as the town's mayor for an impressive 25 years.

Mayor Smith's legacy is woven with threads of community engagement, tireless support for education, and a passion for fostering a sense of togetherness among Silver Lake residents. Throughout his tenure, Mayor Smith has been more than a leader; he has been an advocate for the betterment of the city.

One of Mayor Smith's cherished traditions has been his love for reading to children. His countless hours volunteering at the Silver Lake Public Library and his recent tradition of reading "Twas the Night Before Christmas" at the City of Silver Lake's annual tree lighting event have left an indelible mark on the hearts of both young and old.

A long-standing supporter of Silver Lake Schools, USD #372, Mayor Smith has been a vocal advocate for education, ensuring that the community's children have access to the resources they need to thrive. His commitment to the younger generation is further exemplified by his enduring support of various school and athletic activities.

Mayor Smith has been a driving force behind the success of the fire and law enforcement trick-or-treat kick-off event in Silver Lake. In recent years, this event has become a trunk-or-treat hosted by the Silver Lake United Methodist Church, with a focus on bringing the community together and fostering a spirit of camaraderie among residents.

As Mayor Smith bids farewell to his mayoral duties, it's bittersweet to think that he has now sat in City Hall for his final time as the leader of the pack. The location for this historic meeting is different, as the Silver Lake Community Center will serve as the venue for the final gathering of the Silver Lake City Council for the year on Monday, December 18, 2023.

Eagerly anticipating spending more time with his number one priority—his family, particularly his grandchildren—Mayor Smith is not just a mayor but a loving grandfather who has embraced neighborhood children, treating them like honorary grandchildren.

In addition to family time, Mayor Smith looks forward to visiting his mother every chance he gets, highlighting the deep familial bonds that have shaped his values and sense of community. Mayor Smith is also excited about the prospect of more quality time with his wife, savoring the moments that make life rich and meaningful.

The City of Silver Lake extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mayor Mack Smith for his 25 years of exceptional service, dedication, and unwavering commitment to making Silver Lake a warm and welcoming community. Mayor Smith's legacy will undoubtedly endure, leaving an everlasting impact on the town he has so faithfully served. May this new chapter bring him the joy, relaxation, and fulfillment he so richly deserves. 🌟🏛️
