REGULAR SESSION MONDAY EVENING JUNE 17, 2013
The Governing Body of the City of Silver Lake met in regular session at city hall on Monday evening June 17, 2013 with Mayor Mack Smith conducting the meeting and the following Councilmembers present: Nancy Bryant, Tim Kampsen David Linderman, Tom Noble, Larry Ross (5) Absent: None.
Cathy Newland, Silver Lake Library Director, was present to thank all of the city staff and council that volunteered for their Expansion and Renovation Project Kick Off Party that was held on June 8, 2013.
Motion was made by Councilman Noble and seconded by Councilman Ross that the minutes from the last regular session held on June 3, 2013 be approved as amended.
Councilmember Bryant presented the monthly financial report.
Claim voucher was submitted to the council for appropriation. An ordinance entitled "An ordinance appropriating money to pay certain claims" was introduced and read at length. Motion was made by Councilman Noble and seconded by Councilmember Bryant that said ordinance be accepted as read and was then placed on final passage by roll call of the following vote: AYE: Nancy Bryant, Tim Kampsen, David Linderman, Tom Noble, Larry Ross (5) NAY: None. Ordinance was declared passed and was given No. 2236.
City employees presented a list of items that they would like included in the 2014 Budget. These lists will be forwarded to City Accountant Annette Fiedler so she can prepare the draft budget prior to the July 15, 2013 meeting.
A Proclamation of Kansas All-Star Football Shrine Bowl Day was presented to council. Motion was made by Councilman Noble, seconded by Councilman Linderman and approved to proclaim July 27, 2013 as Kansas All-Star Football Shrine Bowl Day. It was noted that Peter Pfannenstiel of Silver Lake will be participating in this football game.
Building/Grounds Superintendent Taylor will be attending training on Thursday and this should complete his required training for the year.
Chief Call reported that he has received the Mobile Data Terminals for the patrol cars and after initial set up, they will be installed.
Councilmember Linderman briefly discussed a recent grant that the City of Rossville was awarded.
Councilman Linderman inquired about street sweeping this year. Council did not feel that the streets needed cleaning at this time.
Council reviewed a letter that the city sent to a resident that has requested a 30-day extension to the June 1st deadline to complete repairing a structure at 305 Beaubein. Council approved this 30-day extension which will require these repairs to be made by July 1, 2013.
Councilman Ross announced that they have put their house on the market and are leaving Silver Lake as soon as it is sold. He will continue to serve on council until he moves.
The city has recently released a security at Silver Lake Bank.
Mayor Smith announced that Don Moler, the Executive Director of the League of Kansas Municipalities has announced his retirement effective January 1, 2014.

Mayor Smith reminded council that the next meeting is scheduled for July 1, 2013 at 5:30 P.M. The following meeting will be held on July 15, 2013 at 5:30 P.M. Councilmember Bryant noted that she is unable to attend the meeting on July 15, 2013.
With no further business to come before council, Councilman Noble moved to adjourn the meeting at 6:00 P.M. The motion was seconded by Councilman Linderman and approved.
