The Governing Body of the City of Silver Lake met in regular session at city hall on Monday evening September 18, 2017 with Mayor Mack Smith conducting the meeting and the following Councilmembers present: Nancy Bryant, Tom Noble, Heath Robinson, Larry Ross (4) Absent: Tim Kampsen (1).

Motion was made by Councilmember Bryant and seconded by Councilman Noble that the minutes from the last regular session held on September 6, 2017 be approved.

Councilmember Bryant presented the monthly financial report.

Claim vouchers in the amount of $5,899.33 were submitted to council for appropriation. An ordinance entitled "An ordinance appropriating money to pay certain claims" was introduced and read at length. Motion was made by Councilman Noble and seconded by Councilman Ross that said ordinance be accepted as read and was then placed on final passage by roll call of the following vote: Nancy Bryant, Tom Noble, Heath Robinson, Larry Ross (4) NAY: None. Ordinance was declared passed and was given No. 2375.

Motion was made by Councilman Noble to sell the city share of the corn crop that is currently being stored at Cargill. Motion was seconded by Councilman Robinson and approved. After brief discussion council agreed that after the first of the year they would like to reassess the rent the city is charging for leased farm ground.

Public Works Superintendent Taylor reported that shot rock has been placed in the east end of the retaining wall/ditch that was constructed at the intersection of Lake and Rice. He noted that they still need to make repairs to the mailbox that was damaged during construction.

Council approved Public Works Superintendent Taylor getting prices for a 12 volt hand valve exerciser.

Chief Call reported that a Lawn Mower Permit has been drafted and that he will meet with each applicant to make sure they understand the requirements of this ordinance.

A representative from the Kansas Department of Transportation has contacted Public Works Superintendent Taylor and asked if he could cap the tubes that run under the sidewalk in an area that is experiencing a continual drainage problem following heavy rains. Taylor indicated that they would cap these tubes.

Councilmember Bryant told council that she would not be able to attend the meeting scheduled for October 2, 2017.

The Silver Lake Board of Zoning Appeals will meet at 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Silver Lake City Hall. Purpose of the hearing is to hear a request for a variance to the fence height requirements on property located at 304 Sunset Ct.

Chief Call reported that the annual citywide garage sales went well.

Mayor Smith reminded council that Silver Lake Municipal Court will be held on September 27, 2017 at 5:00 P.M.

Public Works Superintendent Taylor reported that they are now spraying for mosquitos twice a week.

The next meeting is scheduled for October 2, 2017 at 5:30 P.M. The following meeting will be held on October 16, 2017 at 5:30 P.M.

With no further business to come before council, Councilman Ross moved to adjourn the meeting at 5:50 P.M.  Motion was seconded by Councilman Robinson and approved.
